Fashion never stops, and despite fashion month finishing a couple months ago now, the designers of the industry are by no means slowing down. At the ‘Fashion Forward’ event in Dubai, this March, a collection of dreams was introduced by the lovely Michael Cinco for his A/W 2017 collection.
Michael Cinco (born August 27, 1971) is a Filipino fashion designer based in Dubai. He has worked with some A-list names including; Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell. His beautiful and intricate creations have been worn by celebrities of the likes of Sofia Vergara, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown, Fergie, Paris Hilton and many many others! His ‘eco-couture’ collection was featured in the America’s Next Top Model. Cinco’s achievements have been recognised by the Asian Couture Federation and in 2013 the title of ‘Asian Couturier Extraordinaire’ was conferred upon him. Cinco was born in the Philippines in 1971. He first studied at the ‘University of the Philippines Diliman’, majoring in Fine Arts for the first 2 years and then went to ‘SLIMS fashion and arts school’ in the Philippines. He furthered his studies in fashion and pattern making by studying a short course at ‘Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design’ in London (known for being the starting point for many successful fashion designers). In 1997, he moved to Dubai and established his own couture house, ‘Michael Cinco Haute Couture’ in 2003. His works were featured in Dubai Fashion Week and Swarovski shows. In 2011, he won as Breakthrough Designer in the WGSN Global Fashion Award. He also joined the Miami Fashion Week where his swimwear collections and bejewelled gowns were featured.
Yet, this current collection debuted at the ‘Fashion Forward’ event in Dubai, has mustered quite the ‘hype’ across social media because of the insanely gorgeous and princess like gowns that really are fit for royalty (or your dream prom!).
The collection includes a mixture of form fitting and princess like gowns, all in the most enchanting colours from soft powder blues to neutral golds and mysterious darks. It really is the collection every girl wishes to own/wear. A few of the pieces also feature the very current ‘cut out’ trend which adds to the desirability and pure royal-like aesthetic.
I could see myself walking into the Met Gala (pfft I wish) or rocking up at my year 13 prom is these gorgeous gowns, but I could also see Cinderella dancing at the Ball in Michael Cinco’s A/W collection – they really are fit for princesses. The collection also feature mens wear (fit for Prince Charming) with elaborately designed suit jackets that are so very eye catching with floral prints and strong colours.
It’s safe to say that Michael Cinco is not one to miss, I mean, just look at those gowns!!
