Fashion: The Rise of Street Style

The Fashion Month is no longer all about the runway, times have changed and the real runway could arguably be the streets of New York, London, Paris and Milan – where the fashionista’s strut (and wobble) down the cobbled streets in their very tall heels.

Now, I must admit although my excitement for ‘Fashion Month’ is mainly for catwalks and the designers (Julien McDonald has my heart every season) in recent fashion week seasons, I find myself being that little bit more excited for the street wear; anxiously waiting to see what the guests and the bloggers are styled in. Whether it’s the more casual and wearable take on the trends, or just the realness of seeing people actually wearing the looks to run about the city in a relatable setting, there is something so cool and raw about street style.

The attire you wear to a fashion show has always been important, you can’t just show up in any old t-shirt and jeans, yet it’s currently more important than ever and if you want any chance at being ‘street style papped’ you better be sporting a standout piece whether that be a pair of ‘pretty woman’ style boots, a hat or a multicoloured coat – you just gotta stand out from the crowd and create a look you are both comfortable in and that is worth being photographed!

The street style community have accumulated some girls who you can really just rely on for some (pap worthy) good style inspo! From Olivia Palermo who perfected the classic jeans and shirt look years ago to Chiara Ferragni who just always gets it right – every time!

Some one my favourites so far from New York Fashion Week have been giving me some serious outfit envy as well as giving me some seriously chic style inspo for my upcoming spring wardrobe… hello new clothes!

Some of my favourite street style looks from New York Fashion Week have a running trend of bold and bright statement colours to really bring attention to an outfit. The blogger babes have been on top of the trends with insane standout looks – which fashion blogger Tamara Kalinic and blogger Caroline Daur did so well! With Kalinic’s orange accents through her coat and nude lady Dior bag and Daur with her bright red puffer coat to add that street style vibe to her pussybow blouse and Gucci bag – they really did hit the mark with their street style (give me the bags!!).

Then there is of course the metallic/patent trend that looked uber cool in a dark and romantic way. Blogger Victoria from ‘InTheFrow’ was absolute outfit goals in her silver metallic stiletto boots from Jimmy Choo that certainly bought a shine to the sidewalks of NYC. Kate Davidson Hudson, a founder of Editorialist, was a babe in her black patent leather trench coat of dreams that screams New York City chic!

Last of all, a favourite look of mine from NYFW was the military trend with structured blazers, touches of red, and buttoned coats of dreams. Being a big (big) fan of all things red and military esque this outfit from blogger Jenny Cipoletti was one of my favourites! She slayed the street style game with her gorgeous Gucci bag that left the rest of NY with bag envy for days, her Tory Burch earrings and a swoon worthy storets coat!

Do you love street style? I love how expressive and fun it can be – you can truly wear anything and among the New York streets it’ll look on trend and just so ‘Street Style’.
