A new year means new TV shows to watch! Staff writer Rebecca has shared five eagerly anticipated TV shows for 2017.
Tina and Bobby, ITV
The highly anticipated ITV drama starts on January 12th and charts the ups and downs of football legend Bobby Moore and his wife Tina; the UK’s original ‘celebrity golden couple.’ With a stellar cast including Michelle Keegan, Patsy Kensit and Lorne MacFayden, the series is tipped for huge success and could prove a definitive moment in 2017 British Television.
Dr Foster, Series 2, BBC1
The BAFTA winning BBC drama is back with its second instalment this spring following an incredibly success debut. Although a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, early spring is the rumoured date. The drama, which achieved an average of 10 million viewers last series, will welcome back most of the original cast including Jodie Comer and Mike Barlett, as well as the divine Suranne Jones in the title role. Definitely a show expected to set twitter on fire.
The Moorside, BBC
Based on the real life events surrounding the disappearance of Shannon Matthews. The two-part drama is set to begin filming during spring with the hope broadcasting before the end of the year and will focus on how a group of women brought the community together in an attempt to find a disappeared child. The cast is made up of several British TV stars including Sheridan Smith, Sian Brookes and Siobhan Finneran. Speaking of the drama, BBC controller Charlotte Moore said:
“As a nation we only saw this story from one perspective and hope the drama will capture what it was like to be a part of that community.”
Broadchurch, Series 3, ITV
The murder drama has kept the nation gripped for two seasons already, and a trailer has just been released by ITV for our third visit to the small town of Broadchurch. However creator Chris Chibnall has announced that in the case of this drama, third means final. The good news is both David Tennant and Olivia Coleman have reprised their roles of DI Hardy and DC Miller to give the world one final acting masterclass. British TV at its finest!
Big Little Lies, Sky Atlantic
Starring Hollywood royalty Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, Big Little Lies is an upcoming American comedy/drama based on a book of the same name by Liana Moriarty. The show will tell the story of three mothers whose apparently perfect lives begin to unravel. A release date has been set in the US as Feb, 19 with the UK date still to be confirmed, however Sky Atlantic have announced it is ‘coming soon.’ Definitely set to be a 2017 talking point.
