Em Sheldon, 22, is the definition of a #girlboss. As well as running her award winning lifestyle blog EmTalks, she is also the founder of LVNDR, an accessories ecommerce store which sells the cutest clothes and jewellery (hands up who wants to give off mermaid vibes in the pretty pearl shell necklace)? We caught up with Em to discover what drives her to be so successful and her plans for the future.
Why did you decide to begin your blog, EmTalks?
I started it in my final year of 6th form, year 13 in order to put something on my CV for my University application!
You’ve recently graduated – congratulations! How did you juggle being a student and running your blog?
Thanks so much! In all honesty, I didn’t! It was really tough with sleepless nights and a lot of stress but hey, I managed it!
I love how you cover a wide range of topics on your blog- fitness, fashion, travel and personal posts. What are your favourite type of posts to do and why?
I absolutely love doing personal posts, they can’t be planned and they can’t be rushed, they just come to me and I find they go down the best.
You blog about your travels a lot- where is your favourite place you’ve visited and why?
I absolutely loved Misaim – it’s such a cool place! I loved the food, the people and the positive vibes there!
Why did you decide to create your jewellery line?
I’ve always loved jewellery but find it can be too expensive, particularly when girls like to change fashion jewellery daily.
How has being really busy with blogging and your jewellery line affected your social life?
I don’t really have a social life! Joking, I do, but I have to be really careful about what I agree to because things come up last minute so I often end up letting people down due to work commitments. I do try plan in relaxation and social life!
Being a blogger you can be connected to your work 24/7 nowadays via social media. What do you do to relax?
To relax I go to the gym, it’s my way of getting away from my phone and actually working hard for an hour per day!
Do you find other women in the blogging community supportive?
Completely, I’m fortunate to be surrounded by a group of amazing girls who work so hard and inspire me every day. They support me more than people I’ve been friends with my whole life because I guess they just understand it more!
What advice would you give to our readers who want to begin blogging?
You are your niche – there’s room for us all!
Do you plan on blogging full time for as long as you can, or would you like to get involved in other aspects of the creative industries?
I’d love to blog full time as long as I can but obviously wouldn’t turn down getting involved in other aspects, for example TV, radio and maybe some published writing would be a dream!
What plans do you have in the future for you blog and jewellery line?
I plan to expand LVNDR with an exciting new capsule collection in the new year and I’m hoping my blog will grow!
